Letters from readers
What readers have said back.
This page is for curated excerpts from reader correspondence — what readers have said, asked, contested, and quietly offered back. The trilogy has been published for less than a year; the site has been one-way for almost as long. This page begins to make it a conversation.
It is not a comment section and it is not a forum. The letters here have been chosen for what they add to the discussion, with the writers' permission, with names withheld or used as the writer prefers. If you want to write, the address is below.
The page begins quietly.
As of this writing, the page is mostly empty by design. Reader correspondence accumulates over time, and posting every interesting letter on day one would misrepresent how the conversation has actually unfolded. As letters arrive that contribute something the rest of the site cannot — a clinical case the author had not encountered, a piece of physics the author had misunderstood, a literary reading that opens the books in a way the author had not seen, a sober disagreement worth engaging in public — they will appear here, in the writers' words, with attributions chosen by them.
If you have a letter to send, the address is contact@josegudemd.com. The author reads everything and responds to most things, usually within a couple of weeks. Permission to include any portion of a letter here is asked separately; nothing posted here was sent expecting it to be posted.
What this page is meant for
The site has spent most of its existence broadcasting in one direction. That has been on purpose — the author wanted to set out the work cleanly before opening the floor — but it has also been a structural limitation. A literary project that takes consciousness seriously cannot in the long run be one-way. The conversation has to be possible.
This page is a small first step. Over time it will hold three kinds of contribution:
- Cases. Clinical experiences readers have submitted that add to the trilogy's evidence base — terminal-lucidity stories, anomalous-perception cases, contemplative experiences with unusual reproducibility. Posted only with permission and only when they add to the conversation.
- Corrections. Mistakes readers have caught in the science, the citations, the philosophy, the music, or the literary detail. The author would rather post these than hide them. The site is better when its readers are critical.
- Disagreements. Substantive objections to the receiver model that go beyond what is already on the steelmanned-objections page. The strongest critic is more useful than the easiest convert. This page is open to both.
What this page is not for
It is not a discussion forum. It is not a comment section. It is curated, slowly, by hand, with the author choosing what to post and with each writer consulted before their words appear. The slowness is intentional. The internet has many places to argue in real time; this is not meant to be one of them.
It is also not a site for personal practice guidance, medical advice, or contemplative coaching. The author is a hospitalist with a full clinical schedule and is not in a position to take on individual readers as patients or students. The work is on the page, in the books, and in the synthesis; the rest is the reader's to live.
That said: if you write, you will be read. If you write something worth posting, with your consent, it will be posted. If you write something the author got wrong, the page will say so. That is the small commitment this page is making.
